there was a move in late 2014/early 2015 (I was on hiatus so I don't remember when) that changed the forum's coding. since then, special characters (such as those for other alphabets and languages, like asian languages) have not worked on the forums, and some punctuation in threads from before the change has been replaced by the html numbers.
