nah it's cool, those are all the questions of a sensible person
first gens are really just a self-imposed challenge for most collectors. it's a lot harder to fill your lair with nice first gen dragons. there's also an inherent customization appeal. if you see a gened first gen in my lair, you know that (okay with 99% likelihood) that I chose and paid for those genes myself. it makes the dragons feel more like they're "mine" and an expression of my tastes when I've invested so much in them. it's also just really satisfying to take a triple basic plentiful and turn it into something special.
and sure any sensible person would say "but why not just breed the dragon you want yourself or wait until it shows up on the AH, for like, a fraction of the price." but first gens are kind of their own separate game for rich players? like yeah I could pack my lair with super-pretty dragons from the AH in one afternoon, but there's no challenge to that, and none of those dragons would feel special. a first gen I've sunk a couple million into is special and mine.
