oh, both sides were definitely doing it. but during the actual battle light got word of nature spies and absolutely flipped the fuck out on here. people were super quick to paint nature in a negative light during/after that battle, including condemning the whole flight for the actions of their loudest whiners (and nature whiners can be pretty loud). it still seems like nature suffers the bad rep from that fight, and a bunch of the reason for the bad rep was because of the spying shit. which light was doing too. idk, i can see the frustration, especially on AR which is very heavily light flight with (iirc) very little nature representation. not sure if it's warranted six months later, but light did pull the whole moral-outrage-over-the-other-flight-spying thing again.

idk why people still care about spying at all honestly, fucking every flight does it and the ""intel"" gives you zero advantage. the only way to win at dom is to exalt more dragons, there's no actual strategy involved past that. i wish we could all learn to just shrug this shit off rather than making a fuss about it when it happens literally every big dom battle. it's getting kinda boring.

"the only way to win at dom is to exalt more dragons, there's no actual strategy involved past that"

I hate when people use this as an excuse, especially since it's just not true. (And is actually pretty insulting to the people that dedicate their time to developing Dom strategies.) Plague's infamous blitz that pushed Arcane down to 3rd during their own battle (v. Nature I want to say??) is a prime example of just how big an impact strategy can have. Blitzes aside, there's also AH raids, raffles, art for fodder, spreadsheets, in-flight programs, even merc threads -- all of these are examples of strategy in motion, and how well a flight uses them can make or break a flight during Dom pushes.

Whether or not you agree with spying, there is an advantage to it. Knowing how much money they have to burn tells you how far you have to push them before money becomes an issue. Knowing the date and time they're planning a raid gives you the chance to get there first and take the cheapest dragons, pushing prices up faster and forcing your opponent to spend more money for less return.

There's a lot of hypocrisy that flies around with this stuff, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have an impact.

While I agree that dom takes strategy, a quick correction on the Plague/Arcane thing: Lightning was going for dom that week, Arcane was profit pushing, Plague did a blitz because the fodder was cheap (I think? There may have been something else, idk). Some people in Arcane were upset because it was the best motivation for actually doing decent in dom we'd had in awhile (after that dom started getting more organized), while others were like "it's dom, Plague can do that". Considering Arcane has its own "fodder is cheap, let's buy them up and exalt" midweek (or endweek) thing now (on occasion, usually a "see how far up the dominance board we can go" thing), I really don't feel there's any hard feelings left. Though goodness knows, some users might be holding a grudge for all I know.
