I asked my friend in shadow and they said that they started collecting prizes suuper early. But aside from the basic packs the organizer wanted to make, there weren't many other donations and it didn't seem like prize donations were advertised much. Also apparently their INF raffle is a lot better, it has gene scrolls and a shadow sprite. Makes me wonder if they were organized by the same people.
I'm in Shadow but I've been too busy to be super-involved in Dom organization stuff lately but can confirm that what your friend says is right. The in-flight raffle has way more and better stuff. Shadow sprite, genes, sylvan apparel, boss familiars, usermade accents...the out-of-flight raffle has none of that.
I don't know what happened there. The raffles are run by two different people (Aeonox is running in-flight, BeingOfNature out) so I don't know if BoN dropped the ball on collecting donations or what. Aenox's thread for collecting donations for the in-flight raffle does name check two people for donating a lot of expensive stuff to it, so maybe those two are responsible for how good it is. That thread also mentions that because holiday dom is uncontested they're looking to save the treasury funds for actual dom battles later and aren't soliciting super-amazing items right now, so maybe that attitude was also carried by whoever was organizing/donating to the out-of-flight raffle and no donor with a lot of funds to throw around came to save it from mediocrity.
Maybe starting so early (I've heard a whole year beforehand) has part of the problem. If you make the thread so early, I'd think that people would just stop caring and forget about it after a while- there's a reason why most festival prep starts 2-4 months ahead of time instead of even earlier. Plus I don't think Shadow has a mod (besides Undel, who doesn't count), so it's not like they could get the planning stickied or anything.
Just a small note about not having a mod (which idk if everyone knows about): if a flight doesn't have a mod, people can ask/ping Aequorin for forum stuff. It's not very worth it if it's just to get threads moved, but it is very useful for stickies! So they technically could.
Adding to the above: Shadow lost the majority of it's long-standing, super-dedicated members this past year. Those were generally the people who donated the best things/most money during previous raffles.
Basically there's just really not enough people left in-flight who have good things to give AND care about it enough to donate.
ugh that's a bummer. i vacationed in shadow around a year ago, and left around the time all the dom team drama started happening. i always assumed they'd bounce back just fine - considering how big the flight is, you'd think another group would surely take over the reigns. it's a shame that hasn't happened yet, but i guess organizing festival activities/dom stuff for the biggest flight is a pretty big undertaking.
i hope you turn it around! if it's any consolation, the trickmurk contest submissions are absolutely killing it this year and it's looking like it'll be an awesome festival.
To be honest, at this point I don't think there IS any bouncing back. That disaster hit us a lot harder than people realize, I think. Shadow's changed completely from the way it was a year ago - it used to be a very friendly, welcoming, and fun place to be. Then the Dom drama happened and it became toxic and vitriolic, destroying our established Dom team/system and driving away some of our most long-standing, dedicated, and contributory members.
And now it's just... very shallow and vapid, honestly. The forums aren't particularly interesting, a solid half of the forum regulars are closer to obnoxious than pleasant. Our Dom "team" is weak and at least one member is apparently either unreliable or an outright thief... it's just a mess.
I can't wait for Trickmurk to be over. As soon as it is I'm out of here.
I don't even intend to be mean, I just... this is just the worst one I've seen for a flight's festival. If that's what they want to do, that's fine, I guess.
oh wow that IS bad. no festival apparel outside of sashes, no sprites, no non-festival accents, no popular/cycled/gem apparel, only one artist doing art prizes... and isn't shadow the biggest flight? i'm kinda shocked.
i mean, i know it's their festival week push so it's not like they need to even really try. but why even bother with a raffle at that point? these are all fine mid/low tier prize packs that could be so much better used in a future push.
