I'm so amused that the companion comet is beloved now. When it came out, people HAAAATED it because it's the exact same on every dragon, and it's so awkward looking. I remember comparisons to those coloring/sticker books where you can stick those flat stickers wherever you like on a picture. Personally, I still think it's the laziest fest apparel they've done.

The sheer amount of bitching people did about the comet when it came out was astonishing. It's hilarious that it's now considered "the best" of the lot, seeing as the whole site lost their shit in a bad way when it was first released.

I mean, yeah, sort of, but even then it looks like someone layered a couple of stickers together. There's no shading; it doesn't look like the dragon is actually holding a circular object. That thing could have been so cool if it even cast a pink glow on the dragon, at the very least.

i have no idea when and why the opinion on the comets turned. even only within the category of "floater" fest apparel it's just so boring.

When it became more rare because Arcane has a high population growth relative to the number of comet copies people bought.

Actually there was just as much positivity when they came out as negativity. Thats why I invested in a fuck ton of them and made bank later.

But lazier than the balloon/guide? Plus, there are a lot more dragons that work with a glowing purple crystal ball than with a huge hot air balloon and/or gassy muppet.

WAY lazier. It looks like a sticker. It's flat as hell. It doesn't change size according to the dragon breed, and it doesn't cast a glow onto the dragon like a glowing item should. It is the definition of copy/paste.

All of this. For some reason I liked the comet at the time, but now, having actually tried to put it on a dragon (any dragon), it's absolutely noticeable how lazy it is. Comparably, I didn't like the balloon at first, and I still wouldn't use because it doesn't match my lair, but it looks better and has more... personality?

The comet is so bad, but I've seen tons of dragons that make the balloon work great.
