There's a difference between expressing discontent and going after the artists. "I really don't like the winning entries" isn't specific and attacking. "The winning entries are shit" is.
That said, I'm not promoting thought-policing here. But you sure do look like an asshole when you say that kind of stuff. If you're going to be unhappy be unhappy with the admin and the judges who selected things, not the people who decided to take part in the contest.
Who is going after the artists? Are the artists actually one and the same with their art??? Very hippie college art professor. Be one with your art and then no one can say they hate it because that'd be mean.
Okay. So, you'd totally be down with having someone say that something you're proud of is shit?
Because when you say something is shit you're commenting on someone's skills. I mean fine, say it's shit. Say it's unworthy of being picked as a winner or a runner up. Yeah they're putting their work up for public critique but I'm fucking tired of hearing about how the winning entries are shitty all the time on this game and how all the "worthies" never win.
Would I be happy with that? No. But still a lot happier than I am being told I can't have a negative opinion of a piece. That I have to be upset with the judges?
Disliking a work =/= hating on a person. Any and every creator has to learn that because there will always be someone who doesn't like what you do, and there will always be something someone else makes that you dislike.
"Going after the artists" would be saying that the artists themselves are shit/actually going after them instead of, you know, talking on an anon meme.
Saying that the skins that won are shit is just expressing an opinion. It's not even one that I happen to share completely --I like the spiral and the skydancer-- but don't act like hating a skin is somehow a personal attack on the artist who drew it.
