I hate Mathers as much as the next person but if we could not cast rap fans as misogynists simply for liking a musician that would be stellar. The only thing someone liking his music says is that they have shit taste.
Lmao you need to calm the fuck down. Wayne raps about eating pussy and having side bitches, main bitches and dropping dick then leaving. He also supports the mothers of his children has publicly announced he's retiring at 35 to be able to be a constant in his kids lives. Eminem has alway been vocal about the love he has for his daughter. Nearly every rapper that came up from nothing takes care of their families.
I don't hear you slamming Taylor swift for making millions off of shit relationships. Yes she did it without offensive language but she still did it. Shitty life experience and upbringing play a huge part in the rap community. Eminem got slammed for a lot of shit he said and he kept going and at the end of the day he doesn't have to worry if he will be able to feed his daughter.
Liking an artist and their music and understanding what's said for shock value and knowing that, yea their lyrics are riddled with slurs, but it doesn't make you a bad person or misogynist for bumping that shit in your rusted out 92 Nissan. .
Tbh you sound like Yonderthought running around calling Bowie fans rape apologist so sit the fuck down and have yourself a chilled coffee.
Btw the ''rappers who don't cuss/use slurs' shit was literally just will smith. And if you're referring to the use of nigga, bitch and hoe being used by the black community stfu we reclaimed that shit. Made it our own. So don't police our reclamation of something we took that was used to put us down. Side bitch or main bitch, it's our choice to refer to ourselves as such. And the same argument is used over the word queer and you damn well know it.
lmao I don't think ayrt is the one who needs to calm the fuck down
Lil Wayne and Taylor Swift have literally nothing to do with this, neither does whether or not any musician is taking care of their family. that song is misogynistic, it's gross that anyone took the time and trouble to name dragons shit like "WomansClitoris" or whatever that one was, and it doesn't belong on Flight Rising. that's all. you have no leg to stand on here, and tbh your hyperbolic anger and insulting tone make YOU sound more like Yonderthought than anyone else in this thread :'D
I never said it made it ok use the lyrics as dragons names, I apologize if that's how I came across and didn't clarify that I don't agree with or condone use of inappropriate lyrics on a site that is 13+. The staff did the right thing, the user is 100% in the wrong and was knowingly violating TOS.
All the points I made were concerning the lyrical content of rappers and artists in the public eye, and that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. And iirc Eminem has made statements that his earlier works, My Name Is came out in 99, were immature and he understands the negative effect they had on people. I also forget the younger generation may be unfamiliar with infinitely more disturbing works by artists that are now considered groundbreaking. Method Man and Redman's song Cereal Killer comes to mind, and Immortal Technique's song Dance With the Devil makes my stomach turn. Jay-z made a public and conscious decision to stop using the word bitch, and many other artists have said they regret past mistakes, lyrics, and comments made to the press and otherwise.
But I digress, I forgot that people are forever the sum of their past actions and even if they learn from them or grow as a person to understand that words carry weight even when done in satire, it will never be enough.
pro tip, coming in hot to a days-old thread and dumping five paragraphs of angry irrelevance on it is not how to sound "calm"
look, I don't give a single fuck about Eminem himself, or what he has or hasn't learned. if he's become a better person since he wrote the song then good for him, that's genuinely great. but it doesn't make the song itself any less misogynistic, it doesn't make me side eye people any less for devoting a lyrics dragon to it, and it doesn't make it okay to name a dragon something like "WomansClitoris" on Flight Rising. what Eminem or any other rapper has done or learned since writing misogynistic songs is totally irrelevant to the conversation. you could have just ended it at saying the person was wrong and violated TOS. hey, we agree! how great! the end.
Oh I'm sorry! I wasn't aware that replying to topics and having opinions was so frowned upon and that there was a time limit on what I could and couldn't express views on. You have my sincerest apologies. At least we agree the user was in violation of TOS and the names were inappropriate. Thank you for your 'pro-tip'. I'll keep it in mind and make sure I do a character count on future responses.
Btw. The view that learning from past mistakes is irrelevant, be it part of the main conversation topic or not, is extremely harmful and I side eye anyone who bases their opinions of people on things such as taste in music, clothing or tv shows.
Looks like I better work on my run on sentences:

you are way too mad for me to really get into this so i'll just say daaaaaamn you don't understand reclaiming. when you're calling someone else a bitch as an insult in your lyrics, that's the literal opposite of reclaiming. same as if you were trying to insult someone by calling them queer.
actually i lied, i'll also say it's fucking misogynistic of eminem to glorify domestic abuse, end of.
and actually why the hell are you bringing up the black community at all when we're talking about a white rapper?
Thank you for speaking over me as a black female and telling me I don't understand what reclamation is. I stated there are rappers don't use bitch, hoe, nigga in negative contexts, and never once said that the entire industry itself is free of misogyny, nor that Eminem's lyrical content was free of it.
but...you don't understand reclamation. your race has nothing to do with it whatsoever, it's a concept used by many, many oppressed groups and you are objectively doing it wrong.
"never once said that the entire industry itself is free of misogyny, nor that Eminem's lyrical content was free of it."
then...literally what is your issue here? the discussion at hand was that writing songs that are demeaning to women is misogynistic, not that the entire industry was doing it or whatever?
Wow, look at that strawman. Is this a family business? Perhaps you come from an agricultural family? You don't get strawman-building skills like that in the city, nosirree, not unless you train with one of the greats.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 01:04 am (UTC)(link)1.) there are rappers who don't use misogynistic language, so saying this is calling all rap fans misogynists is false.
2.) if you like a musician who made his name on demeaning women in his songs--guess what, you're a misogynist!
3.) this isn't just liking him, this is devoting many, many clutches to writing out a song that's demeaning to women
