Which could bring it back to the cheating angle, with people who check kanojo gaining an edge on finding and buying new accents faster than players who check the auction house or browse threads casually.

The reasons not to have a wardrobe viewer probably has a lot to do with game design. Example: I preview a Sunchaser Jewelry on one of my dragons and decide that it would be perfect for them. Now I have a difficult goal in obtaining one and I'm less likely to be happy downgrading my goal to a cheaper option that uses the site treasure or gem sinks. The design of the game is meant to encourage players to buy and keep at least one copy of ever apparel item just in case it might be useful someday, without overly taunting them with the apparel that is beyond their price range. The economy and the site monetization strategy relies on people buying and hoarding more items than they could ever use all at once.

The last two sentences you said seem outlandish to me. I have been on plenty of pet and avatar sites with wardrobes and they do fine. Presumably any loss in the (potentially small, anyway) amount of people willing to hoard just in case or the people who buy something they normally wouldn't have due to the hope it would look good on their dragon/avatar/etc is offset by the number of people willing to buy things only because they saw in advance that those things did look good on their dragon etc.

To be honest, that part was mostly wild speculation. Some form of wardrobe simulator could also be considered non-essential at the moment compared to the other updates being worked on. It got ugly last year when people were screaming about Coliseum controls and trading systems.

The whole system for selecting apparel could probably use some redesign, like different tabs for different item categories. Or a search function. It's a bit tedious to scroll through the entire catalogue of items, whether it's items that you own personally or selected from a generic design wardrobe.

ayrt
Ah, gotcha. For the record I think it would be outlandish game design, but definitely not an outlandish speculation.

Also, yeah, I am all for making an official database that everyone would have equal knowledge of. No more cheating that way.
