Funny how no one cares that Aralas did this first. Let artists try making money off of their art. It's like a custom anyways and the winner keeps the only copy. Until the admins step in and say this is against the ToS, there's no point to find an excuse to drag mona's name through the ground again.
I agree that this is probably only being brought up because Monarque is doing it, but it doesn't lessen the fact that both Aralas and Monarque are probably (I say probably because the ToS isn't really clear on this specific process) violating the ToS. Should it be looked at by the admins? Probably.
I don't care for either of them doing it. I only knew about Mona because that was the one that was posted on here. I assumed it was the first of it's kind. I don't like the fact that either are doing the thing. Feels like they are playing fast and loose with the technicality of it all by trying to auction off premades.
I don't mind the thought of artist making money but this format rubs me the wrong way for some reason.
What's wrong is that it's just the 'product' that's being sold and not the 'design'. For example, Toothiana sold a 'design' to another user, and that user retains the right to print it as many times as they want, and all the profit from printing will be theirs. This other user paid Toothiana RLC for it.
Now take a look at Aralas and Monarque's auctions. They're selling the 'product', that being the actual skin, and not the .psd for it. Whereas this isn't so different from Toothiana's on the surface, the .psd file, and therefore the rights (unless explicitly stated by the auctioneer) remain with the auctioneer. Therefore, nothing is stopping Aralas or Monarque from hypothetically printing more in secret, or just 'un-retiring' it in the future. Not saying they will, but that's the major difference I see.
tl;dr When you sell the .psd/rights it's okay, when you sell just the thing it's not.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-12 03:40 am (UTC)(link)what non above said, plus the fact that a lot of customs are done for game currency anyway.
ideally in real money customs should come with the psd and the option of printing however many you want
