People aren't perfect(even professionals). Your mother was trying to help, stop nitpicking someone who stumbled trying to console you.

Telling someone to try to do something in the future that they feel horrible about not being able to do now doesn't require professionalism to not do, but general kindness.

I guess it might help to mention she also tells me to try doing things I've told her, in the same conversation, I'm already doing. It feels like she's not being encouraging in those situations, but just throwing out as much as she can about "well if you do this and this and this things might get better!" so it feels like she's saying "well things would get better if you did this thing even though you're trying really hard to do the thing or have told me you literally can't do the thing and it is all your fault you can't do the thing because if you just listened to me it would all be better"

In the conversation I was posting about, I told her about one of my successes. Later she told me to do that thing as if it were her idea. As if my success meant nothing. Which I know it doesn't mean nothing to her, but honestly her intentions and her words don't always match up.

So yeah. I'm not really.. interested in further defense of my mother's supportive skills, so forgive me if I don't engage with you more.
