A good coding revamp, everywhere.

Hearing that the new Coliseum code will have an option to toggle off animations but that somehow this still won't make a difference in speed worries me.

Well, if toggling off animations makes battles go faster than its technically unfair to people who leave them on because toggle off players can get more battles in per minute. The only reason to toggle off animations should be for those people whose computers or browsers stall during an animation. Otherwise, a battle should take the same amount of time whether you've got them toggled on or off.

nayrt

That's like saying it's technically unfair for people to have eliminates on their dragons because some people can't afford them. They make grinding/training faster for those that do have them.

If someone wanted to grind faster they'd just shut off animations. It's accessible to everyone. That's not an unfair advantage in the slightest. It's just a toggle. A toggle everyone would have.

The admins have said that an animation toggle is coming with the coli rewrite but that it won't make battles faster.

Scroll down to the big "Update: Coliseum" section. Or just read this:

From this menu, you can disable the following visual effects:
Weather Effects (such as snow, rain, embers, bubbles, etc.)
Animations (abilities, floating, dragon jumping, etc.)
Elemental Flash/Screen Shakes (the effects that happen when you score an elementally-charged attack against what that element is strong against)
NOTE: Disabling these effects will not alter the speed at which battles progress.
