Thank you so much for this. I never check DR any more these days because I hate the toxicity, and I would have missed out on this wonderful argument.

Can't agree with the first poster on skink and spinner, but can confirm that we have a very narrow range of rock and tree colours in Southern Ontario.

It always makes me sad when people think they're only surrounded by boring rocks and minerals in their area. :<

But, uh, I'm kind of a rock nerd and I'd totally go rockhounding. I guess if you're just looking at stuff as you drive by/not looking too closely it could seem like that. Here you wouldn't know we've got more than just some old volcanics, if you don't care to look too close.

Just going to set these links here for context on the rocks and trees saga:

Actually, I do find the geology of my area fascinating, it's just that it really is a lot of brownish-grey coloured rocks in the southern region. A lot of exposed limestone and shale especially. Maybe if you're lucky you find some metamorphic stones or boulders dropped by the glaciers and those do have some pale pink veins. When I said that there's a narrow range of colours I mostly meant that we have basically no source for bright coloured semi-precious gems shown in the 2nd DR post.
