Small Flight bonus musings

(Anonymous) 2018-02-18 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I know this has been an argument that's been raging for as long as dom itself but,
When people say "Earth has an unfair advantage because of it's size! They get a big dom bonus nobody can compete with! They come first without trying!" was true, then how come Fire, the second smallest flight, is consistently at the bottom of the board.

err earth are consistently pushing for that top spot though, aren't they? :s

im not saying fire don't exalt, just maybe things are a bit more relaxed there

Oh no that's what I mean! I know Earth does try really hard, it's just a stupid argument I see turn up.
From what I heard last about Fire is that they're all really big on coliseum and dominance but by sending to other flights dom efforts rather than getting dominance for themselves.
So they don't move much up the board because they're selling to other flights rather than exalting for themselves.

My point was that if Earth just magically get put in the top placements unless other flights are pushing because they're a small flight (like some seem to think) then that logic would be true for Fire.

You thinking has the same false assumption that the dom formulas have - that all flights have an equal number of people interested in dom. Since I'm not in Fire and only have second-hand info, as far as I know, the dom community in Fire is not that big (and they don't have many mass exalters unlike Earth) and it shows in their usual rankings.

Re: Small Flight bonus musings

Mostly because Earth is still HALF THE SIZE of Fire.

Also, any flight size advantage is at its strongest when the flight is getting OOF support -- when they pull out KS items, Earth becomes literally unbeatable. So, flight culture in most flights is what determines background exalting level. (In all flights, really, it's just that in Earth there are so few people that "flight culture" is in turn determined by a few strong exalters who have moved there because they like placing every week.)

I find it hard to believe that people still don't understand this, but in case you're not being disingenuous, there you go.

It's habit I guess. I left a month ago and I am still in the same web-browsing motions when I am bored.

Here's to hoping that I stop coming here, because reading some of this petty shit ain't no good for one's faith in browser based pet sites.

from fire, can confirm

Re: Small Flight bonus musings

The active and inactive player vs active exalter ratio probably plays a role in it too too. Dom loving mass exalters who don't care about flight pride nor lore would be smart to move to a dinky flight like earth and take advantage of its size and player ratio to get more placing.

Re: Small Flight bonus musings

(Anonymous) 2018-02-19 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Less than half the size as only active accounts count towards the dom ratio, but the public number we see includes inactive accounts. And for a long time all players who went inactive after creating an account but before picking a flight were put in Earth, so they have a greater than usual number of inactive accounts that need to be subtracted from the public number.

You must feel great wishing the worst for someone. You're absolutely disgusting...

Get help if you think that's actually something to laugh about. I fail to understand the thought process and acceptance behind this stupid thing that's so popular with children anymore.

Re: Small Flight bonus musings

size isnt much of a bonus for inflight exalting, it's something that comes into play when oof support is added to the equation

so yeah, like others said, if two flights have a similar size, placement totals are going to be defined by the size of the dom population and how hard they go at dom (which includes factors like how often they have coli burnout and their preference for exalting themselves or sending to other flights)

I really, really hope they don't have an Earthshaker led lore event around the time of Shadow's holiday. (Or any non-Shadow-themed lore event.) The site will flip out, considering they got upset when it was just things like coli venues and this would be bigger. I hope the Admins are smarter than that. (Hope, but don't necessarily expect.)
