If adding new details to old drama, make sure to link previous threads.

This rule from the previous previous post will continue to apply: "Hi X" threads without proof/details etc are no longer permitted, as they are derailing and OT. They will be screened without explanation.

ALSO. KEEP WANK IN THE WANKER THREAD. This is to keep things easier to find. If it involves a player being a shit, it goes here.

No politics. No religion, generally no inflammatory topics. Keep it civil, or it'll be frozen.

college tips for freshmen?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-20 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
what it says on the tin p much. does anyone have any good advice? i'm feeling pretty nervous going in honestly

Re: college tips for freshmen?

Almost every freshman does the same things so if you feel dumb don't worry, you are definitely not the first. Other things you've prob heard before (Don't raise your hand to go to the bathroom just leave, don't go out every night and party, go to class.) but some stuff id like to add

1. Wait before buying textbooks. You need the syllabus to know what you'll need for class and more often than not teachers don't require the paper book. Unless you really want to pay extra for it, you only will need the online code if the class requires one, and a lot of access codes for classes throw in a digital textbook for free. Shits all online now. And if you do want the paper book, buy second hand or an older edition. Its almost all exactly the same.

2. Talk to your teachers after the first class. Just a hand shake and "it's great to have your class" is all you need. It makes a good impression.

3. I recommend Rate My Professor with a grain of salt. I think it's extremely useful but don't treat it as end all be all. And read the reviews, not just their scores. I've had great professors with low ratings because they just don't work with some people and that's all right. Knowing your learning style is great so you can try and find who looks best for you.

4. Make friends. I know that sounds weird but it makes college a lot smoother. I've heard so many stories of people who become incredibly depressed because they just don't make good connections and just keep to themselves. Go to the freshman events too. Not only will you meet other just as worried freshmen, but it gives you a chance to connect with upperclassmen who can help you out.

5. Again, a weird one but if you take nothing else away from this, get a planner. You will need it. Teachers don't baby you with that stuff. They will tell you a few times when stuff is due (some don't even do that and you need to get your due dates from the syllabus) and if you don't take note you are really likely to miss it. Plus there is so much going on things can just get forgotten about so easy.

Hope this helps. If you have questions or need more info you can PM me on FR at Croccultist #323762

Don't slack off at the beginning of the year, cuz it's gonna bite you in the ass at the end of the year, guaranteed (unless your professor drops the lowest test score or whatever)

Also, don't be afraid to drop a class if you don't think it's right for you. This applies to elective classes, GE options, whether that particular professor may or may not be an asshole/have really strict grading policies, etc. If you end up "seeing it through to the end" you might not learn a single thing and fuck over your GPA in the meantime.

Recc for Wildclaw breeders?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-20 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone have any wildclaw breeders to recommend? I want to buy a brother/sister pair form the same parents, but all I find in the auction house is single babies.

Honestly, I don't know for sure either - I was told it was specifically for nb people, but I might be mistaken.

I mostly agree with this, HOWEVER!!! IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON DROPPING A CLASS CHECK YOUR FINANCIAL AID REQUIREMENTS FIRST! A lot of financial aid requires maintaining a certain class load (often full time, ie 12 credits), and if you drop below that they will take it away from you. It may be better to just fight through the class if the other option is losing all your financial aid.

ayrt

That's a v good point
Also make sure it doesn't screw up your 2/4 year plan in the long run.

I don't, but do you have any preference for what they look like? I wouldn't mind breeding some of my WC's together and/or finding some and breeding them for you.

If you need help, or special accommodations, or just get really overwhelmed/stressed/depressed, please please please reach out to someone.
Your school likely has special services available to you if you need them (eg, free counseling sessions) - use them! Do not try and tough it out on your own.

(not saying you're likely to need these things, but they're like fire escapes: you should know where they are in case you ever need them)

What's your broadcast message

What it says on the tin. I've seen some really funny broadcast messages sometimes.

Also feel free to share some of your favourites that you've seen.

ayrt Oh, anon, I really don't want to put you out! I was hoping for breeders because I'm also trying to avoid ice & wind eyes (for lair & lore balance) and I don't want to fuss at a well meant offer.

If you're still interested, I'm fine with green&yellow, or pink&brown, or abyss/abyss/some kind of blue. I prefer less flashy versions of stuff (brown and rose as opposed to umber and magenta.)

For price I don't have much cash, but I do have a full set of pink silks I'll never use I'd be happy to give away.

A broadcast message is the little status message that appears underneath your username on clan profile. It also shows up when you hover over someone's avatar dragon on a forum post.
