oh man, i'd be stoked if the other person asked me if they could background check me. that's a really good point.
most of the postings i've seen are clearly desperate people who come off as the opposite of wary, but the cautious ones are who i should be looking for. thankfully i have time to figure things out since i still don't even have a place secured, so i'll have to research my state laws about renting rooms and really weigh if the risk is worth the cheaper rent. the mortgage stuff seemed scary but trying to evict someone in your own house is probably scarier.
