Exactly. I round up to the nearest 5/0 (35 to 40k for example, or more, given level of detail)
And sometimes after that, if they've delivered quickly despite having a huge waiting list, I give em another tip, or send a stack of food, cause they're artin' instead of coli grinding possibly. I also tip festival currency if it's during a festival.
The surprised reactions make me sad. Art is a thankless job.
With some of them, I've been giving a third of the adopt price at least. They're so quick and polished! Thanks for the tip about food, I might add a little of that too. I wish they'd have wishlists too because I might start giving coli familiars. Good for muck if nothing else I guess.
One of the reasons I don't buy art as much as I want to is that usually when I send a tip it gets returned to me with "oh hey I think you overpaid!"
NO, YOU UNDERCHARGED, PLEASE TAKE MY MONEY. It always makes me feel unreasonably guilty trying to foist things on people who apparently don't want them.
...See, that occurred to me briefly, once, but I dismissed it out of hand because I didn't want to draw attention to the tip and look like I was fishing for compliments about my generosity or something. But considering how I always get the "you overpaid" reaction, I'm going to do that from now on. Thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious to me.
Yeah, if I were doing it for art I might want to tip after I got the art so as not to possibly sound awkward. But if doing it all at once before I got art, I might say it really short, so it would be just straightforward explanation of the treasure total and not fishing like you mentioned.
I wait until I get the adopt and hit them with a pm saying 'tip' now. Because yeah, definitely had a few artists a couple of months ago try to return. Above anon has a nice straightforward method though.
Definitely not the only one! In fact, the first two times I think, I just accepted the money while responding that gosh I uh totally didn't realize I overpaid and slunk off because I am a sad awkward turtle. I didn't even understand why, it's not like I did something bad and yet I felt so embarrassed. But I managed to push through the next couple of times and while I still have hiccups, it's easier shove tips at people.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-03 03:59 am (UTC)(link)Thanks! I'm really glad I'm not the only person this happens to, I was convinced I was somehow really conspicuously bad at tipping or something.
