I don't buy art so could I ask, do artists usually say something like "tips are appreciated" in their threads?

da
I mostly see art sale artists say that. Less so adopt artists who have drawn a base and do genes and sometimes apparel + accents/skins.

I think they still deserve a tip because some of them get such big workloads and have less than 40k treasure price for the adopts. Sucks up a lot of time to handle that much but they might not feel comfortable asking for tips since they're working off a base they draw once.

Sad thing is, most artists don't expect tips.

I do commissions for money off site and never expect tips. I expect what I charged, so when I see that extra in there with like "Here's a tip!" or "A little extra to cover paypal fees <3" etc, it makes me SO HAPPY.

I imagine artists on petsites don't even dare to dream about tips, given how rare they are with real funds.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised. I've never sold commissions on a site before, but of the friends/acquaintances I drew for when they asked for something, only 2 out of 11 people gave me anything in return. And one of the two kind of stopped giving equal return later.

(I do not draw for people much now.)

nayrt
I think a lot of people look at the talent side of drawing and don't see all the hard work, so I wonder if the people who didn't give you anything even realized how it could take effort from you to produce art.

You have a really good point. I do sometimes fall into the trap of thinking it gets much easier for more experienced artists too so a couple of the friends who didn't give in return even though they also draw a little probably thought it didn't take much effort for me. And didn't help I kind of tended to tell them don't expect it soon but end up giving them priority in the end.

Ah well!

yeah, this. i've done commissions/adoptables on and off FR, and I'm always surprised the rare time anyone tips. i set my prices for what i feel is a fair wage for my adoptables or whatever, since i don't expect to get tipped at all.
