er, I'm not really finding google results that would indicate that they stole it.

nayrt

Even if their art is legit, it seems a little strange for many people to be asking where their commissions are. Could possibly be taking money and not delivering ? Idk this person is hella shady in some way

Yeah, I was only addressing the one part.

something about their examples feels really off... idk, like style wise they don't all match up and their watermark is this giant ass signature that looks terrible. their one example of a dragon is a traced ridgeback head, that's the first major red flag.

these two are most likely to be their own art:

these three are dog linearts were all done by the same person,, but edited by espoir:

the "sketch" underneath is WAY better done than the lines on top. they've slapped on some sloppy additions that are plainly by a different person, they're super shoddy.

this one they shifted the hue on as a flattened image, so the lineart looks kinda green on the edges. if the original artist wanted to tint the paws/nose/eyes they wouldn't hue shift the whole image.

and then this one?

looks nothing like the rest, and is the only "finished" looking example they have.

seems pretty damn fishy to me

Tangent question -

Logistically if you have a lineart that is the traditional black and you wanted to color the eyes, hue shifting black would still be black? or am I thinking of a different photoshop thing?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-23 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, completely grey/black/white can't be hue shifted at all, but even a tiny bit of tint will make it shiftable

actually now that i look at the dog lineart in this case it might be a colour overlay? that would make more sense

yeah I have to say... the proportions in the first two pictures are really off (especially the face) and of a completely different quality compared to the rest of the stuff

the 3 dog pictures look very "rigid" and realistic, but then the last picture you linked has art that has really relaxed, flowing line-art with exaggerated proportions (that still look good because the artist knows what they're doing)
also the (Russian?) text looks really bad and it's been done with different brushes, which doesn't really prove anything, just strikes me as... odd (like, I've slapped my name on an existing pic using different brushes when I've been in a hurry, but *this* text looks like it took more than a minute, and the brush strokes look very untrained and rigid)

Honestly, I'm inclined to think the first two are their own as well
the 3 dogs are traced and the last picture is completely done by someone else

For what it's worth, I have a friend ("friend" tbh) that has the same problem, no two works of his look the same but it's because he follows tutorials slavishly. You're right that they're probably just ripped, but they could just be an inexperienced artist.
