i know someone else started trying to do a forum-based accent/skin guide in the guides subforum, but thousands of images on a thread is a total nightmare. the forum format just doesn't work at all for what a proper accent guide needs.

I don't really have a horse in this race, i just find it fascinating to see nonnies reactions to this range from legit bafflement and annoyance at mods for this, to people being like "lol that site was so not legit, ofc they'd ban it you dummies".

EXACTLY! It's really extreme. I can understand why they act the way they do about it, but it's causing no harm to the site or userbase at all. If anything, it's something it helps. It's just sad to see that they try to shut down fan made things that are out there to help others.
Except that it does violate their TOS. It uses a script to scan the site, and it saves all of the images onto its own server. You say it causes no harm to the site, but I thought I'd heard that when it's collecting data for its database update it does slow things down, which I could see as being a concern to the admin.
I'm just not seeing why people are so upset about this. They may have banned you from talking about it on site, but that was an obvious step due to their disapproval of it. However, they haven't yet taken the more extreme measure that Gaia took with tektek, so you can still use it if you want to.
FR has no control over what kanojo is doing with their art assets. They CAN'T be okay with offsite databases even ignoring the data collection program, because it'll come back to bite them if kanojo ever starts running ads or phishing programs. It's not good for FR to allow other people to profit off their art like that, or to promote an official-looking servive that could outright scam their customers.
what's new, it's not like FR doesn't run annoying as fuck ads themselves. they don't want anyone to use it, build their own comparable feature. no one's profiting off their art currently. Or are you implying all fan-run wikis out there with ads to support costs are dodgy as shit. If so, I've got news for you, buddy.

DA No, blacklisting tumblr or imgur would be petty and anti-user. Blacklisting a private site that re-hosts FR assets and "mirrors" site functions explicitly against the TOU, that is common business sense.

Dear God, more than one person can share an opinion. Also wikia =/= mirrored database. If the FR wikia had the kind of functionality that people have been using kanojo for, then they would be using that instead.

that's pretty much what it comes down to. it's something fr currently doesn't have. if they deigned to give us that as part of the site, we wouldn't need kanojo
