i suspect it ties into ice being #1 gougers during the most recent conquest battles. people will invariably knock over the saltshaker if they perceive themselves as being screwed TWICE
yes i think that's the main problem here. ice whined endlessly when mercs came about first during ivp but realistically nobody got fucked as hard in terms of overpaying mercs as plague and light during the last push. inb4 'no one made them' no nobody made them do it and they didn't complain about it either, it's just a fact. ice acted hard done by during ivp, then they milked the system, and now they're trying to discourage people from using mercs because only they're allowed to profit off everyone else apparently.
and i know in that thread they're only talking about dom funds but bringing the whole merc thing into question RIGHT after milking it dry just makes them seem like spoiled brats.
tbh if it was me deciding not to pay mercs from the vault, i would have done it as low profile as possible. call it internal budgeting, once the battle is about to start just tell the people they wouldn't get reimbursed, done. i'd never try to propose that to the other flight, especially not in the name of "fairness", lol
imo if ice felt "gouged" during ivp or ivf, it was due to their own bad choices or bad budgeting. and if any of them claim to "regret" mercing even after all the money they've made, it's because their preferred team didn't win. boohoo, can't have your cake and eat it too.
i'm not sure if i mentioned it in my own post but yours reminded me - a huge part of my issue with the whole thing is them ANNOUNCING IT. it would be fine if they'd done what you said and just kept quiet about it. tbh no one would've even noticed.

Ehh, in fairness the posts that started all this were on a dom thread in Ice's private forums, it's not like they were announcing it loudly to everyone. It was as internal and low profile as it's realistically possible to be.
That said, it does come off as pretty hypocritical and cheap. As long as Nature is agreeing to it they can do whatever special rules they want, but wow does it seem miserly.
but if they planned to ask nature to agree, it wasn't going to remain internal or low profile anyway. if it had been meant to remain internal, there wouldn't be a need to announce it so much earlier.
Yeah, but it still would have been confined to private forums that way. Only Ice and Nature would have known. It wouldn't have been common knowledge for all flights now if it hadn't been part of the screenshots that got spread all over.
It would if they decided to go with asking the other flights not to merc. If they just kept it quiet in-flight(s) then yeah, if the merc dragons didn't sell everybody would have just figured they weren't shopping. We've had battles like that. Whoever fought right after IvP hardly bought any.
