#47 - And now for something completely different (Part 2: Electric Boogaloo)

This is a Star Trek anon comm now. Make it so, nonnies.

Just kidding!
Since the attitude in the comm has chilled out a little, I'd like to try another post without a Wanker Thread to see how it goes. The Wanker Thread is still present on the comm, but hidden to you (for now) and will be brought back if any big drama occurs that people feel should be contained. You can still make complaints about things that annoy you on Flight Rising, but let's try and keep the vitriol at a minimum.

Oh, and welcome to
The 47 Society, AnonRising!

New Q&A

Aequorin answers the question of if posting new breeds in suggestions is pointless: "All posts made in the Suggestions forum are an incredible starting point for inspiration, whether it be for items, dragon breeds, game features, improvements, etc. Though it is unlikely our development team will incorporate player-made breed ideas verbatim, they're definitely helpful for getting ideas for overall themes that players are enthused about."

So, uh, is that tl;dr for "you can keep posting stuff, but don't expect your dragon species to show up as an official one"?

Also included in the FAQ: if shade-worshiping dragons exist, and how do exalted dragons "serve" their deities

hasn't the "how do dragons serve their deities" question been answered at least once before?

Re: New Q&A

(Anonymous) 2016-08-23 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
it has, but it's common for them to answer the same question multiple times

I think it's more "we like to see what people suggest because it gives us an idea of what the players are interested in."

In other words, they won't implement an idea the way it's presented, but it helps them see what kinds of themes people are interested in (i.e. lots of horns, water-based, fins, etc.)

Exactly, you won't get your exact one implemented but features of it could show up if enough of the same pop up or heavy interest. You won't get the lore you come up with coupled with whatever they make.

I think that's what it means, yeah. Even though it is long over, I don't really think it would be fair to that one person that paid $1500 to get their breed in the game to have the admins start implementing the user-suggestered breeds for free. (I get that's what could come out of backing kickstarters, but still. Still.) I do agree with the themes/parts thing though. (Tbh there are no user species I have really liked as a whole anyway but I do like parts of some)

Semi-unrelated but I'm reading though new questions coming in and they are fascinating as usual. One person is having a small fit because they voluntarily contributed money to this otherwise free site by buying gems and are mad they aren't getting their money's worth because no new breeds

lmao do they seriously think they're "investing" in the site?

ok

i'm an investor at walmart because i bought something from there once

now where are my stock options

Lol, yeah, I don't buy from Walmart because I expect new departments to open soon (all thanks to me!), I buy from Walmart because I want a product they have right now. Thems the breaks kids!

more seriously, if this person really is concerned about the site's future, releasing new breeds isn't going to help. it'll get people excited for a week, then they'll stop caring once the new breed, regardless of rarity, has that huge population boom and people start asking for a new breed again because the novelty wore off in record time.

they complain about apparel, but apparel, genes, and familiars do more for the site's longevity than new breeds do imo. that said, i think FR seriously needs to work more on giving its playerbase more things to do.

For me it isn't the lack of breeds, genes [although I'd kill for a good new treasure tert), apparel, etc that is making me lose interest. As you said, FR needs to give us more to do.

Baldwin is deadly dull. I spend the vast majority of my time just chucking things in to make green stuff for holidays. Breeding dragons isn't really an option anymore, as they don't sell, so I'm constantly just breeding fodder dragons for exalt, which isn't fun. Geneing dragons isn't worth the effort, especially as I tend to like gem genes which are virtually impossible goals. And pretty much the only way to reliably make money is the coli, which gets very repetitive after awhile. Especially as I can't even train dragons to 25 to sell, such that I can visit different venues. Instead I'm stuck in the Mire leveling to exalt. Fairground is boring too, as it is a lot of similar games. I would love a logic game or a word game like Mycena Caves's ecolocution or spellstones. And I would also love anything else to do. Like Adventure mode, whatever that ends up being.

I used to be so excited about FR. Now it just feels like the same tedious things over and over, and I'm really losing interest.

imo one of the worst things they've done was to announce Adventure Mode so long before it's supposed to be released. The hype is never going to live up to the reality at this point, and it seems more and more like it's just never going to come.

I'd like more things to do too, but at this point I've mostly given up on that happening. Even having them release a beta version of Adventure Mode would be more interesting than this- there was another game I played where you could travel around with your pets. It wasn't finished, but it was out and people could play it (and report bugs and issues) and the coders were updating it on a regular basis.

Right now it just seems like they're stuck in a rut of apparel, apparel, apparel, genes, familiars, apparel. Which isn't bad, but there's not really much variety and if you've already got your dragons dressed up and decked out with genes and familiars...not much else to work on.

Real talk, how many users do you think would pay 1,500 real life American dollars to design a FR breed? I'm thinking more than 2 but less than 10?

(Anonymous) 2016-08-23 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, well, it seems like the users who want to spend a lot on the site/this is where their fun money goes, spend A LOT, so I could imagine a number of people actually taking them up on it? (For example Warriorjames would probably jump on the opportunity to make himself a dragon breed, so there's one person right off the bat)

would be a much higher number if more fr players HAD $1,500USD to blow on that.

lord knows i would if i could.
