#47 - And now for something completely different (Part 2: Electric Boogaloo)

This is a Star Trek anon comm now. Make it so, nonnies.

Just kidding!
Since the attitude in the comm has chilled out a little, I'd like to try another post without a Wanker Thread to see how it goes. The Wanker Thread is still present on the comm, but hidden to you (for now) and will be brought back if any big drama occurs that people feel should be contained. You can still make complaints about things that annoy you on Flight Rising, but let's try and keep the vitriol at a minimum.

Oh, and welcome to
The 47 Society, AnonRising!

tbh i have always wondered why fr artists don't seem to take custom orders for usd (only) with this free reprint rule. it's technically the person's risk on the design sales volume, they should be giving proper credit to the artist and well, even if they "profit" in gems, they're paying real cash. granted, the usd amount has to be worthwhile considering the artists' time, and idk if many artists could pull that kind of pricing on a pet site, but this is probably the first attempt of the kind i've seen...

either that, or auction free reprint designs for cash (removes the need of dealing with the commissioner), which i don't think i've ever seen as well

selling already finished designs for usd? hmmm sounds good. maybe i'll suggest that to spikulec

yeah, the artist can put up a ready-to-print design and maybe offer small changes, such as recoloring bits of it. bonus if it's someone who has been on the market for a while, as they might have an idea of how many batches the thing would sell (considering their usual popularity + the chosen accent theme)... which they can also take that into account when setting the usd AB!

people really love owning exclusive items, i think it might be worth trying. the downside is that there would be more unavailable things to the rest of us, but hey, the artists would be paying their bills at least

yeah the way i see it i understand why spikulec did it
the winners can sell for gems all they want but spikulec actually has rl money to buy rl stuff
although... u can make the argument that the winners can save on money they'd otherwise have to buy gems with in the future, by just selling the customs for gems instead to get all they need.
but then again at some point the market will be saturated with said customs and value would go down.
unless the buyers are very careful with selling....
etc etc idk the way the whole thing runs is confusing tbh

yeah, at some point the market would saturate. i don't think most people would sell too many copies for very high prices, so in the end they'll probably make a gem profit, but a relatively small one

(or if it's a very popular artist/kind of design, it might be worthwhile to leave it without an ab, just to see how crazy rich users can go)

sa

just to clarify on the exclusive items part: while regular customs are exclusive enough as they are, when they can be printed multiple times people might decide to buy it for their friends as unique gifts (birthday, christmas, whatever) or to pool money from friends to have an item that's special to their group.

say, someone is selling a new cat accent, i find 7 more people who love it, we print a batch exclusively for us and sell the remaining 2 copies for gems to cover our blueprint costs. never saw it on fr, maybe it could work well for artists
