#47 - And now for something completely different (Part 2: Electric Boogaloo)

This is a Star Trek anon comm now. Make it so, nonnies.

Just kidding!
Since the attitude in the comm has chilled out a little, I'd like to try another post without a Wanker Thread to see how it goes. The Wanker Thread is still present on the comm, but hidden to you (for now) and will be brought back if any big drama occurs that people feel should be contained. You can still make complaints about things that annoy you on Flight Rising, but let's try and keep the vitriol at a minimum.

Oh, and welcome to
The 47 Society, AnonRising!

Is it rude/a social faux pas to privately contact the winners of a limited skin to tell them you'd like to buy it if they ever decide to sell at some point in the future? I wouldn't tell them this part out of fear of guilt tripping (I don't want to do that!), but there was a limited accent run for a unique accent that very strongly reminded me of a friend of mine who died and unfortunately I didn't manage to get a copy and it's retired now.

I'm almost tempted to risk asking them even if it WOULD be rude, and offer to pay several times what they paid for it or just to be notified if they ever want to sell. I'm not into the accent collecting scene and don't know if that's the kind of thing that would get me dragged, though.

i've had two people ping me and the other folks who got a copy of a limited accent to threads asking if someone would be willing to trade, so... i would find it nicer if someone just pm'd me. i know i wouldn't mind. tho i would leave out the part about it reminding you of a friend who died because that definitely could seem guilt trippy.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't mention it! Thank you, if I do contact them I'll do it privately. Thanks for the input.

I know I wouldn't appreciate it, but I'm prone to keeping private conversations to a minimum on petsites and I don't like getting random messages out of the blue, so ymmv.

It does seem kind of rude if they just won the auction, but it also seems like the situation with offers to buy dragons people come across through Search. Some people won't mind it, some people will, and some people will get really pissed off.

Thank you for the input, I appreciate hearing what reactions I might expect!

Might help to put in something that says feel free to not reply, so there's less pressure on them, and I would say double check their profile just to make sure they don't say anything about unsolicited PMs.

Great idea! Thank you!

can you commission the accent artist or another accent artist for a custom accent? not the same, of course, but you could point to the limited accent as inspiration, and provide more specifics on what you want to make it more unique to your situation.

it would pretty much ensure you get an accent without bothering anyone, and it sounds like it would be within your price range.

unfortunately not, it was a very specific concept. there wouldn't be a way to do it without ripping off the original artist, I'm afraid. I had had the same thought at first but it just wouldn't work in this case. but thank you anyway, it was a good suggestion!
