#47 - And now for something completely different (Part 2: Electric Boogaloo)


This is a Star Trek anon comm now. Make it so, nonnies.

Just kidding! Since the attitude in the comm has chilled out a little, I'd like to try another post without a Wanker Thread to see how it goes. The Wanker Thread is still present on the comm, but hidden to you (for now) and will be brought back if any big drama occurs that people feel should be contained. You can still make complaints about things that annoy you on Flight Rising, but let's try and keep the vitriol at a minimum.

There was another new wave of that Dear Artists fallout so maybe it has something to do with that?

Or it could be the mod there is busy or something, it's been updating kind of erratically for the past week or so.

Possibly, since that escaped out into the rest of the internet. I have to wonder why the mod let that post through in the first place, since it's a pretty blatant troll.

I am sorry it's caused so much trouble for them though. :\

it just sucks that they haven't made a psa or anything on their ask page to say that post wasn't them

I'd have to wonder how much that would matter though, I mean, it does say it's a submission based blog on the sidebar above where you click the button to submit and that doesn't seem to stop them from coming in.

At this point I think it's an issue of the post having been so divorced from the original source that it probably no longer matters what the DR mod says or does.

it's been a while, but in my tumblr experience very few people actually go and check the blogs where posts originate

I think Andrew Hussie of MSPA fame got tired of it (among other things) because people would reblog his posts, change the wording to say offensive things, and people fell for it because they didn't check on his blog

tumblr can get very echo-chambery in very bad ways

Why don't they edit the original post with a huge disclaimer that it wasn't written by them? Or add something to the sidebar/blog description? Or the ask page? There are so many measures they can take to help lessen the amount of vitriol thrown their way, and yet they've done nothing so far but make the occasional post about how DR is a submission based blog, which is completely ineffictive considering that these posts will inevitably get buried under the dozens of submitted posts that come afterwards.

At least on the first point, editing your post doesn't change the post on the tumblrs where it's been reblogged.

Dunno about the other measures, though, those could actually help a bit.

It won't change the reblogs... however, if people go back to the original post (which some will do, without a doubt) then they would be able to see the disclaimer. All these measures combined would filter out a good chunk of the toxicity being thrown at the DR blog.

It has been updating erratically for a while. I think the mod is either a new one (if the community was handed off) or the old mod has lost interest. As the queue regularly clears out and other small things like that. This is one of the longer shut downs that I remember, though, and I was wondering myself if something had happened. I hope it gets back on track. I miss being able to check it regularly.

PRAAAISE!! Although I do hope that the Dear Artists post hasn't ruined FR's rep or even the user base rep...that would freaking suck, all because of one troll and a mod of a drama blog that thought it'd be fine to post it.
