seriously, did something happen? did the lineup change? Raz was always a bit uh intense, but mindcrank was second in command and they were super chill and hardworking? and the rest of the group who sort of led the charge back then were generally okay too from what I remember. a bit high strung but otherwise fine. like. ??
mindcrank either burned out or lost interest, I don't think they run much anymore. The two or three dom team members who thrive on living life 'Mean Girls' style are the ones killing it.
:( yeah, mindcrank was my favorite, but iirc her chronic illness is flaring up, and she's really dialing back down on FR for the foreseeable future. it's a bummer, I can feel the enthusiasm draining out of light for dom.
Personally, as I know all of the main dom leaders and talk to them, they're all loosing their enthusiasm to lead. None of them just came into this wanting this position, they just wanted to get things done and once they stepped up once, they felt they had to keep doing so because no one else would. Their levels of excitement and enthusiasm to plan anything has dropped dramatically since VaLightines and that feedback thread, and they are all withdrawing further into chats no one but they are in to actually talk to each other as friends.
I think it's too easy to get burnt out of dom by being in a leadership position. It's a lot of effort, a lot of time and there will still be complaints, so it can get sour very quickly. Plus that's kinda how it goes, if the flight sucks at it, it's probably because no effective leadership showed up before. When it does, people will probably expect it to stay for a while, at least until it can build the dom spirit.
Idk, to an outsider it's kinda hard to know if they closed up because nobody else wanted to help or if nobody else wanted to help because they felt they'd be intruding on a tight-knit group of friends. Valightines was intense, I'm sure the whole Fjaer "you're ruling things from your ivory tower" issue didn't help too.
I'm hoping that dom workshop eventually happens, I think right now we've got at least a few people who'd legitimately try to put an effort into being helpful towards the flight, but who might not know where to start. (I was very impressed by the newbies welcoming team's efforts!) Would be great to help breaking this 'elite' feeling and also give them some rest, I guess.
What I find frustrating is that any time people asked about that skype group, members encouraged them to join up. Well over half the members weren't dom leaders, but Acolights still insisted it was only dom leaders in there who kept secrets. The only reason that group existed in the first place was because there was a huge group that splintered off of the main skype group when they didn't want the group filled with planning, and that group just happened to be made, and slowly it whittled down to only the dom heads and people who wanted to participate regardless if leading or not. Most everything done there was silly conversations or mundane planning like "hey should I extend this column a bit more to make it nicer?"
I hope it does too, I think I want to step up and help them lead. If you notice, they don't communicate as much with other members anymore. Everyone's afraid of getting talked shit about.
No, the problem with the Skype group is that members treat them like dirt and them somehow expect to be included with planning after calling them shit on anon-coms.
There are 2 Dominance discussion threads in the forums, one made to combat the "Skype Exclusion" issue. And neither thread gets used.
That's because, surprise, some of the dom team tried to chase off the person who wanted to use those methods. It doesn't surprise me that other people don't want to join in on forum discussion. It's easier to talk to the dom team in Light via anoncomm because if they out themselves they get a target painted on their back and then shit talked in those live-time chats behind their backs.
Ok, so being an anon on a dramablog bitching about light dom leaders is any better than saying the dom team bitches in their private skype chat about the people who bitch about them on the anon com.
Yeah, because it's only one person who complains about Light Dom. It's a bit different to watch some of you act all nice and sweet to someone trying to help and then seeing the things you say about them when they aren't around and anons complaining that they don't like following two-faced people they have never spoken to off anon.
Not a dom leader, just pointing out the irony at calling people two-faced and such when you're doing the same thing. It sounds like you were in their skype chat. Doesn't that make you a bit two-faced acting nice and then coming here to snitch?
(Lol, I'm the one who mentioned the workshop above)
I think it's going to be hard to find people with enough free time and commitment to fill the big shoes, like running OOF raffles. (Wish I could step up for that, but I'd hate to leave people waiting for me if my job demanded.) Lately I have seen more people sign up for "helping with anything" and trying to volunteer for smaller tasks, so anything that could be divisible could turn into group work, which maybe would help at least sometimes.
@ the discussion going above about only communicating on anon, I think I can understand it in a scenario where everyone is afraid of being talked shit about. If some dom leaders were talking shit behind people's back, then people would prefer to complain about it anonymously so they don't risk becoming the next target, while these dom leaders could also prefer to post without their name attached so they don't get even more shit on them.
Like another anon posted on the Shadow/Drac discussion, the Dom discussion has to be broadened, so strategies/plans get talked about (including explaining the work) and people realize the sort of effort going on + respect it. We're a team, any shit flinging has to stop...
I think part of the issue with the doms talking behind peoples back comes from this anon. They know they're constantly being watched. One mistake and they get tarred and feathered, but when they complain it's "not right" and "cliqish".
They're humans volunteering spare time, haha. This isn't their job.
I'm happy to see more people stepping up. It'll destress the other dom leaders and bring in news ideas :D
I'm wondering this too. I've been too busy to look in for a while and I have no idea what the hell is going on. Is there drama in the skype group or something?
