1) A higher stress load on the site helps point out site hangups. 2) They already had a registration window planned before the hiccups this week? (Which the site has been running better than it has in the past month since they did their thing earlier today.) 3) They're constantly working towards open registration and need to make sure the site can handle it. (Related to #1)
