You're going to get different answers to this. I've seen people swear by the Mire method, but I hate it so much. It takes me about three minutes to train a dragon to level 6 in the Kelp Beds, so I do it that way.
Mire. I do hundreds of dragons every conquest push and Mire training is incredibly efficient compared to my Kelp Beds days. It's also a lot easier on your hand, less strain per dragon since you're training two at once.
I find Mire to be the best use of my time. No chance of bosses (yet) to come kill my team, I rarely have to refresh (unless I'm training past 6, still not the norm) and the familiars sell for a decent rate. Plus the occasional amethyst striker, egg, and black tulips, I make pretty decent money training fodder there.
Not trying to change your mind about the Mire, but as for the bosses, if you use Reflect on your trainers the bosses will not hit you even once, and all of the scratching it takes to kill them means that you usually finish the battle with enough breath to go straight back to scratch/eliminating the next round. The bosses only ever kill my dragons if we run into an Ice one on our very first fight.
You'll probably need it on both of them due to how much breath it takes (it's cheap, though, so not a big deal). As soon as the reflect icon disappears from beside a dragon's name, re-cast it. The enemy won't be able to touch you and will hurt itself with its reflected bolts!
another one chiming in for Mire. it requires a little more attention to attack order than just leveling one fodder, but I agree it strains you a little less and you don't have to worry about bosses coming around. I level to 7 and it works out just fine if you know how to juggle order, when to reset, and if you need to put points into VIT for fodder.
it also just feels good to have two done at once. I mean, it probably takes the same amount of time to level two in the Mire as it does to level two fodder, one at a time, in the Kelp Beds (about 5-6 mins?) because of all the fiddling. but I just feel more accomplished seeing two ready to exalt in one go.
Optimally Mire is slightly faster to level 7, but it takes more attention and the difference is so slim it really doesn't matter. I Beds because I don't like actually paying attention to coli.
