I dunno, people can know they're not straight without knowing exactly what their sexuality is. maybe they've had homosexual relationships before, but they can't decide whether they're bi, pan, gay, or what. I try not to instantly assume that everyone is just trying not to be cishet.

But... there's a very simple term for that, it's Questioning. This nonhetero thing is part of new-age (albeit harmless) heterophobia. these kids don't want to feel left out of a community that should welcome them regardless of orientation.

They'll grow out of it, hopefully.

I mean, they could say questioning but at the same time they might not have a term they're comfortable with yet. Like the big debate over "bisexual" (which people say can be trans exclusionary) vs pansexual (which a big part of the community doesn't like) and, hell, the word queer is such a hot topic issue that a lot of non-het people don't feel comfortable even self-identifying as it (or if they do, they may only use it to talk about themselves in the presence of people who aren't offended/triggered by it).

(Sorry if this comes off as SJWy, but I was in the same boat for a while as a bi/pan person.)

You don't sound SJWy in any sort of a bad way, you're just pointing out that nobody agrees on this shit.

It's become impossible for any term to be PC enough, because everybody will find SOME reason to cry foul. I'm all up for debating, but damn is the lack of consensus becoming infuriating.
