Just kidding! Since the attitude in the comm has chilled out a little, I'd like to try another post without a Wanker Thread to see how it goes. The Wanker Thread is still present on the comm, but hidden to you (for now) and will be brought back if any big drama occurs that people feel should be contained. You can still make complaints about things that annoy you on Flight Rising, but let's try and keep the vitriol at a minimum.

People aren't paying much attention to her anymore and that's good. The way some people latched onto witchhunting a teenager even after she fixed the issues people had with her and dropped off the radar was kinda creepy

Tbh I think it's how she handled the raffle (and by extension her accent shop).

She vanished for a while without notice knowing that people sent her familiars/gems/treasure.

Hey, sorry to be That Anon, but one of the things people were on Rhea's case about was that Rhea would use IP information to claim that people (Monarque, for one) were Definitely Most Certainly the ones sending Rhea harassment, despite the fact that That's Not How IP Logging Works.

Can I ask how you know that this IP belongs to Monarque?

Simply the matching IP between this post and a comment on report a thread where they requested a wank thread about monarque be taken down, phrasing things to imply that it's monarque that requested thing. Ex. "I really don't want people following me and scrutinizing my actions everywhere I go."

So either the original comment from 7/20 isn't monarque and neither is this comment, or they're both monarque. The latter seems far more likely.

Not sure how Rhea made her claim, but I'm assuming she used statcounter which I think only logs what pages an IP looks at and how they got there. In this case, I thought I recognized the thread author's IP and compared it to reports we received. Sure enough, the IP matched a request by Mona that we screen a post that contained potentially identifying information.

I passed this information on to CoMod with my suspicions, and now here we are.

Statcounter also logs who sends asks, so it's easy to tell that way.

only the IP, and only if others don't access the ask page around the same time

so, like, I can tell when my stalker is sending me an ask because of their internet service and state, but I haven't got a fucking clue who they are

if they came from their blog activity though that's recorded as the "came from" page on statcounter and you can identify them that way. or you see they end up reblogging a post of yours directly from your blog at a specific time, and you can put those pieces together.

sometimes you just can't tell who a person is, but it's not impossible

there's an xkit extension that logs the times of posts, and it works on inbox asks too. If you get it, you can see what time the ask was sent and that'll really narrow down which IP sent what ask.

hmm, benefit of the doubt, but could it be a proxy? popular proxies like ultrasurf have near identical IP addresses. website based proxies will often have the exact same IP address no matter who uses it. Does it fall in line with whatever she's said her state or country is in the past?

Admittedly, I didn't think of that. I went back and looked through other reported AR comments. Turns out, this IP is a proxy. It's actually the same one that CoMod noticed a couple months ago.

It also showed up as the author of this thread. There's more comments about Rhea and Mona by this IP here and there around the comm, such as this one (some comments in that link aren't visible to you because they've been screened, but I've included it for CoMod's benefit).

Do with that updated information what you will. Personally, I still find it suspicious that both Mona's supposed hater and Mona herself would happen to choose the same proxy service based in the same country.

hmm, not really, if a proxy is good enough many people will use it. I find most proxy sites suck so finding a really good one is rare. or maybe it's a popular or well known one. hope you don't mind me linking this but I don't want people harassing someone who's basically quit over something we don't have 100% info on. or at all tbh

The proxy is hide.me. It only has three proxies, so it can't be all that suspicious, dipshit. I am using it right now. Some of those posts are mine, but others are not. So way to go being a scumbag and giving people with hateboners for gucci more fodder to hate her.

For those who want to know what went on behind the scenes, here's what happened:
1) I noticed another wank post about Mona and thought the IP looked familiar**, went into the Report a Thread to see if that was where I had seen it (**I now know it only looked familiar because the numbers are unlike any other IP I've seen because of its location)
2) IP matched Mona's request to remove a post
3) I sent the two links to CoMod with my suspicion that it was the same person, not knowing that the IP was a proxy
4) CoMod's callout goes up, we're asked how we know, we say the IPs matched
5) I'm asked if it could have possibly been a proxy, I do some more digging into previous posts and find that it is
6) I also find out this IP had been used multiple times to shitpost about Mona and Rhea on the comm, but retain my suspicion regarding the two most recent uses of the IP
7) Looked around some more and found that the service the IP originates from is easy to find, realized I may have fucked up, noticed I've been called out on it by someone who has used it to shitpost before
8) Decided I need to make a statement about it and clean up the mess I've made before it gets any worse for everyone involved

This comm is anonymous and the only people who can see the IPs are the mods, so I'm not in the habit of checking if every single post made on AR is done through a proxy. I also wasn't incredibly versed in how proxies were used until this debacle led me to do further research on it. To me, seeing posts over similar topics that happened to be done through the same proxy seemed suspicious. But I also now know that that particular service is a common one. So shame on me and me alone for abysmal fact-checking. CoMod wouldn't have made the callout post if I never brought it up, and I will be more careful in the future.

If I did get it wrong, then I'm genuinely sorry to Mona for any grief that this has caused. I've inadvertently done exactly what you wanted us to stop. I'll be screening the replies to the callout post, but leaving mine, CoMod's, and the replies to those posts up for transparency. The rest of the thread will be frozen, but I'll be leaving this one open if you want to vent at me for my mistake.
