#47 - And now for something completely different (Part 2: Electric Boogaloo)

This is a Star Trek anon comm now. Make it so, nonnies.

Just kidding!
Since the attitude in the comm has chilled out a little, I'd like to try another post without a Wanker Thread to see how it goes. The Wanker Thread is still present on the comm, but hidden to you (for now) and will be brought back if any big drama occurs that people feel should be contained. You can still make complaints about things that annoy you on Flight Rising, but let's try and keep the vitriol at a minimum.

Oh, and welcome to
The 47 Society, AnonRising!
*tosses confetti*

God I hate the "no spentember" bullshit
Why does anyone think that it's a good idea

(Anonymous) 2016-09-04 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
Some players like it so they can save up money to spend in October or whatever.
Which of course begs the question of why they don't just shove some in the vault on a regular occasion, but okay.

Some people just work better with a specific time frame/goal in mind. "I'm not going to spend anything from September 1st to October 1st" is just easier for them than "I'm going to save up, for forever, because of reasons".

Crap,I forgot about that. Guess I should hold off on my auctions then :/

(Anonymous) 2016-09-04 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand why people would do it but also, BUY MY DRAGONS AND ACCENTS YOU FUCKS

Teens like make-belief self-restrainty things that make them feel like responsible adults.

idk why people are so butthurt over this comment. its true.

kids like to emulate adult stuff in order to feel more mature. its a natural part of growing up. theres nothing wrong with it, and also nothing wrong with being aware of it.

because it's a condescending assumption to make and it was made with very rude wording

even adults are participating in "no spendtember."

it's not emulating adults, and I don't know why the hell that's your and ayrt's assumption. it's people trying to not impulse buy, not spend, not even try to budget anything until they have a nice big pile of money at the end of the month. the goal isn't to emulate adults to feel more mature, it's the very simple, very basic concept of saving money so you can spend more next month without automatically hopping in the hole and without having to save for something others can have right away (like a new gene).

it's literally something everyone does sometime or another and it's really not for the purpose of emulating adulthood, it's for the same reason literally anyone else saves money. the fact that you jump to "emulating adulthood" is just bizarre to me, like... there's another much more direct, much easier to realize reason for this behavior: it's easier to save when you've told yourself not to spend anything at all.

Also it's a really good way to learn budgeting and saving skills that you can apply to real offline cash, and a better way to practice than with your paycheck.

People of all ages should learn those kinds of skills.

NAYRT
This is an awful way to learn budgeting. This is an all or nothing deal from what I understand, which isn't actual budgeting at all, and will likely result in people splurging when October hits. (Just like people who do strict diets often splurge after instead of those who do a lifestyle change.) A budget would be that half of what they make goes in the vault to save, a quarter can go for new dragons, an eighth is for genes, and the rest can be spent as fun money on apparel or something else. That is the useful skill to learn and can be learned at any time.

ayrt

You can do no spendtember however you want from my understanding, if that's wrong then I apologize. But I've seen people participating who are actually budgeting, not just shoving all their money in the vault.

AYRT
No, not officially. The thread (http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/frd/1956387#post_22118754 ) has a first rule for each of the modes as "1. You MAY NOT spend any Treasure or Gems."

If people are budgeting, that's great, but that's not No Spendtember.
