Just kidding! Since the attitude in the comm has chilled out a little, I'd like to try another post without a Wanker Thread to see how it goes. The Wanker Thread is still present on the comm, but hidden to you (for now) and will be brought back if any big drama occurs that people feel should be contained. You can still make complaints about things that annoy you on Flight Rising, but let's try and keep the vitriol at a minimum.

Not really? This is just something I anticipated would eventually happen. It's hard to miss the fact that Light's kind of gained a reputation among other flights as being unfriendly to compete with, and that that reputation's been building for a while. With that in mind, cause and effect dictates that it would reach the point that we're seeing with Ice now: flights not wanting to go against Light at all.

Unfriendly to battle with???? Why don't you talk to Plague about that, the only ones who say that are flights who have never conquested with us. We won't let others dictate our flights activities esp the fact that we actually want to have an awesome raffle the week before Christmas.

Unfriendly to compete with or just competitive? I've seen Light battle, and win or lose, they're always sportsmanlike. They just play hard. There's a big difference.

I'm kind of sad to see that. We're not trying to be unfriendly, we just really, really love competing. It's fun to go all out and battle for dom.

VaLight's last year was the most fun I've ever had on the site. At the last minute I was screaming GIVE ME THE TV, I'M EXALTING THE TV, WE'RE LIKE THREE DRAGONS DOWN. It was great.

Don't get me wrong, anon - I've met some lovely Light folk who are very friendly. But for every nice person I encounter, I see another five screaming "get good" and "there are no rules in dom!!1!"

Everyone I've talked to about this (as it's come up several times over the last year and a half or so) pretty much has the same opinion: it's not that Light enjoys competition, it's that as a whole they lack respect for the enjoyment of other flights. Take this debacle as a prime example - Ice realized they wouldn't enjoy competing against Light so they dropped out. Light's response (obviously not the entire flight, but enough that it reflects back on you) has been to throw a tantrum, drag up year old drama, and call them "wusses."

It's the fact that Light pushes constantly and then degrades other flights who aren't as dom oriented when they wish they could have a chance even once a year outside of their festival. It's the fact that the flight mantras are rude and insulting by their very nature - get good, stop being entitled, anything goes so we can do whatever we want. It's the fact that Light as a whole seems to have forgotten somewhere along the line that this is a game and people are trying to have fun.

It's the fact that I probably won't bother to check the rest of the replies to this thread, because Light is notorious being unable to handle criticism and it's just going to be a bunch of defensive nonsense about nobody just gets to HAVE dom and Ice is whiny and old drama and Light did nothing wrong etc. etc.

So maybe anon a little ways up was right - I AM a little bitter about this. I don't participate in dom myself because it's not my thing, but I've had a lot of friends in multiple flights who do and it's made me increasingly sad to see their attitudes go from "yay dom conquest!" to "shit Light's still going, we probably won't even get third now, why bother?"

lbr, Anonrising has the reputation of being largely light flight members, and light is often called the dramaflight (even by light members themselves)

Do they put this out in pamphlets because it's not true (there are whole months Light never gets above third and isn't trying to) but it's what everybody keeps quoting as if it is true whenever We Hate Light things come up.

I, too, think you are bitter, non. And you sound like you might be carrying this bitterness since old Light days, because I sure don't see as many people obnoxiously going "get gud" or "do you even coli??" anymore. The only current Light Dom motto I can think of is "Everyone can Dom!"... I havent seen Light trying to promote anything but fun, I'd say this Ice discussion came more out of frustration than a need to "degrade" anyone.

I can sympathize with your Dom enthusiastic friends when they feel they can't overcome Light, but remember that one flight can only take one place in the standings. They can work on getting better one step at a time. If Light is second, aim for third; if Light is third, maybe aim for fourth? Until you rally your troops enough that you can take Light on. Because if Light is third, they're probably not conquesting, and a conquesting flight should be working to overcome that. When Wind and Shadow battled, they were above Light. Arcane had conquested seriously a while ago and was also above Light. It's a reality for every conquesting flight.

I know it doesnt feel this way, but instead of looking at Light, or Plague, it's more important to look within a flight and ask "how can we improve?". Whoever is good at Dom now has put a lot of work into it, because yes, nobody is entitled to a win, but it is no rocket science. Every flight can put in the effort. Everyone can Dom.

I am fine with Ice choosing to have an event push instead of a conquest push this year if that is what they want. (I am the anon who said I understood why they wouldn't want an all-out conquest a month before their holiday.) But I don't understand this attitude.

How does Light placing a lot mean they are unfriendly? Most of the time it isn't any kind of formal push. It is just that there is cheap fodder and Light members want to make money. Either push harder yourself in a formal push rather than casually exalting and expecting to take over, or open a buy thread. I know for me, prices just 500 treasure over exalt average would get me to toss my dragons at another flight, because profit is profit. And if you didn't want to lose money but had some time, offer the extra treasure for level 4,5, and 6, and then train them another level yourself, which doesn't take long. Or be willing to lose a bit of treasure from your flight's dom chest or people who are willing's personal stores.

Dom is generally a sacrifice of time or money. Light has a lot of members willing to put in the time during non-conquest weeks, because they like money, so you have to invest either more time or more money to best them. I can understand why this might be intimidating to a non-dom flight, but it definitely is doable if you can get enough people helping!

It's actually pretty easy to miss, because this is the first I've ever heard of it. Light has struck me as very friendly to compete with, they're enthusiastic and nice. I haven't seen attitude problems out of them since over a year ago.

I think what you mean is that they're hard to win against, which is not the same thing. But wording it the way you did, you're pretty much just calling them assholes because they win a lot and nope, that's not how it works.

Uhhhh, no, it isn't. One flight being good at dom does not mean that all other flights suck at it. This isn't a Highlander type deal, more than one flight can get dom often.

It sounds like you're in a flight that isn't dom intensive and you're frustrated about it. If so, then that sucks and I feel for you. I've been there. But it doesn't mean anyone is stealing your rightful dom. It means your flight has some work to do. I suggest you quit whining and get to it.

Nature, Light, Ice, Light, (Fire), Plague, Wind have been the last week's first places. I see Light only two times there and not six or seven times.
It's not impossible to get first place? They just beat everyone else when it comes to profit pushes because they do that constantly.
