(Anonymous) 2018-02-14 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)Volcanoes were a thing in mid-century US through maybe the 80s? It was one of those Popular Science chemistry demos. You built your own - there weren't kits. Plaster of Paris, baking soda, etc.
You'd have been one of the "clever" ones with access to parents who knew that trick, basically, and were willing to help. And not past grade school. It was for science-minded kids, like sea monkeys and, I dunno, ant farms. Maybe there were kits, but they weren't ubiquitous like now.
