#47 - And now for something completely different (Part 2: Electric Boogaloo)

This is a Star Trek anon comm now. Make it so, nonnies.

Just kidding!
Since the attitude in the comm has chilled out a little, I'd like to try another post without a Wanker Thread to see how it goes. The Wanker Thread is still present on the comm, but hidden to you (for now) and will be brought back if any big drama occurs that people feel should be contained. You can still make complaints about things that annoy you on Flight Rising, but let's try and keep the vitriol at a minimum.

Oh, and welcome to
The 47 Society, AnonRising!

LOL you know that was a reference to something on the site, yeah? Not a personal attack against you that you had to get that aggressive over?

TBH it's a weird topic to be this hard-line on even without it, like otheranon said it's all anecdata and your sales figures don't prove anything by themselves. But the Rose-Colored Shades, look them up.

"a reference to something on the site"

erm. the concept of rose-colored glasses existed looooooooooooong before FR, and I know the concept of seeing life in pink is over a century old.

it's about viewing things as "the good old days" and usually seeing things as better than they actually were, like older folks looking back at the 1950's like "those were the days" and ignoring the racism and whatnot.

point is, I'm not looking at "the good old days" like it's something nice in my mind but not nice in reality, it's something I've recorded in my data. and something the community's been pointing out for a while.

it's not a personal attack, no, but I was rather miffed at the assumption that I pulled this out of my ass. there's more colors and more newbies hatching dragons, it makes complete sense that there's less demand for specific nice combos when there's a lot more nice combos to strive for and the market is oversaturated, plus the overstocking of genes when they first come out.

I feel old, you've really never heard this phrase before outside of FR?

I understood what you meant and how you mean't it to come across. I actually agree with you.

And seriously, if there's people that haven't heard that term outside of FR...dear lord. It's used everywhere and quite often

Agreed, it's a pretty common term, and one I've heard thrown around recently even in international media...

I agree with you too. Too many people hatching dragons, so many nice color and gene combinations, and a lack of lair space means if you don't have the latest genes, latest fad colors, or a niche breeding option, and/or you don't advertise the hell out of your dragons, dragons really just don't sell. At least for non-fodder prices. I generally exalt 90% of the dragons I breed now.

Yeah but this thread was about selling dragons with the hot new genes.

Which aren't hot anymore because bogsneaks are now the hot new thing. And even when they are hot, there are a million color combinations so finding someone who wants what you're selling can be difficult. I can usually make one round of nests selling dragons with new genes well. Then they aren't hot anymore and don't sell for all of the reasons.

LOLOLOL omg, I can't believe you've managed to sell so many people in this thread on me having never heard of them before. It's like none of you have the power to open the website yourselves.

Look bbs, when the item description contains a reference to people complaining about how good the dragon-selling market used to be, and someone brings it up in a thread discussing the dragon-selling market, I just might think they're making a reference. Without being some idiot who has never heard the term before. Seriously, open the gem market, read the tooltip, it's not hard.

a ayrt rt

"rose-colored glasses days" doesn't include the word "shades" like the item is called so how the hell are we supposed to assume? I thought they were talking about whatever I was looking at, which happened to be earlier this year. when you use a really common phrase like that, you need to be a lot more specific if you want it to be a reference, because that puts a whole new meaning on it. with the common phrase, that would've meant "you're looking at some time period through rose-colored glasses." with the reference, it means "you're looking at 2013-2014 imp market."

when someone uses a common phrase, my first instinct is to, you know, treat it like the common phrase that it is, not as a site item reference.
