I've used the link in a post previously and gotten a PM saying "Your post has been edited because it violated the following rule" and the admin cited some rule about cheat sites.

I don't know if they've ever mentioned it publicly as a cheat site but that's been their excuse. One of them, at least.

lol what did you expect when you break bios people put hours of work in and then delete all discussions of the issue. people wouldn't complain so much if you make a way to put items in bios that isn't so complicated. Also, it's never entirely clear (particularly to newer players) that kanojo isn't allowed, so...

tbf yeah it sucks that items don't show up when you use the bbcode for them in profiles, but why use kanojo over the actual FR thumbnails if you're direct linking images?

maybe things are different now, but i was always taught direct linking images from another site is bad internet etiquette. if shit breaks, that's kinda on you for relying on a third party you have no control over. it could be that kanojo is the one nixing it and not FR, honestly.

uh, did you not read about the complaints of ppl on site? it's double layers of work. with kanojo, you just do the[ IMG ] kanojo.de/xxxxxxx [ /IMG ] ] thing. If you wanna go through the FR site itself, you have to [ IMG ]flightrising.com/imageurlhere[ /IMG ]. Given that there's no way to search efficiently for the image url, you have to [ item=xxxxx ] the thing (which incidentally only work for the owner of the dragon) and then copy the imageurl into the [ img ] tag.

ikr? the only thing they need to do is update their broken images to the FR versions

it's not like all that work is lost. sure it's tedious to replace links, but relying on a third party site to host images forever (without their knowledge/consent) is always always always a bad idea. there's always been a chance kanojo could fall off the face of the earth at any time.

if its 2 min per dragon and someone has 150 dragons, thats 300 min, or 5 hrs

Honestly, I wish we'd get more communication from the staff. Subeta does it, and that site is going to shit. Yet they still communicate and apologize when something breaks :/

It's a perfectly good suggestion, and I understand why it's come up now. It's frustrating having to redo your dragon bios. However, I am slightly tired of people complaining about it, but er, mostly because I figured that using pics from kanojo was risky.

Sorry. That's a pretty terrible reason to find something annoying, I know.

between kanojo and that apparel previewer that got a cease and desist, i really wonder what fr's beef with fanmade resources is. ive never seen a petsite be so hostile towards basic shit like item databases. neopets even made a bunch of their fanmade resource sites semi-official.

if it was an issue with leeched resources id get it, but kanojo uploads everything themselves, so...????

Plenty of other sites that have fanmade apparel websites, just for other users to test out outfits on their avis. Which FR would allow that with dragons, It'd really help a lot :/

It's not like people are getting free items from this kind of stuff, so I honestly don't see the issue. And FR is the first site I've seen with this issue.

I thought Kanojo scraped FR for data? That could be an issue.

Could also be that they're looking at the gaia/tektek situation, and trying to put a kibosh on anything that could cause issues in the future.

(For those who don't know, tektek was to gaiaonline like kanojo was to flight rising, until tektek decided to branch off and make his own site.)

i think it's more the principle of it than anything?

it's basically datamining FR on a daily basis - which means they need to upload items and release them on the same day, or else they'll be spoiled. i don't think leeching resources is an issue, it's probably more just kind of a pain in the ass.

it sucks that there isn't an approved alternative (especially with accents) but it also doesn't seem like they've actively tried to take it down or anything? tbh it's likely that kanojo may be behind their images breaking on FR; hotlinking shit is poor form.

Back in the day before we could preview genes and stuff in the scryer, someone made a site allowing you to do just that and it was repeatedly shut down. I think that person got banned on FR for it too.

I find it funny how they hate people talking about Kanojo, yet they removed the giant list of accents/skins that were available. Yeah it was really harsh, too much stuff was on it, and it hadn't been updated in forver. But it was better than nothing! :(

also i'm pretty sure they didn't remove it? they just unstickied it. i think the thread OP was sick of getting pings/messages about it when it had obviously been abandoned for a year.

i know someone else started trying to do a forum-based accent/skin guide in the guides subforum, but thousands of images on a thread is a total nightmare. the forum format just doesn't work at all for what a proper accent guide needs.
