Just kidding! Since the attitude in the comm has chilled out a little, I'd like to try another post without a Wanker Thread to see how it goes. The Wanker Thread is still present on the comm, but hidden to you (for now) and will be brought back if any big drama occurs that people feel should be contained. You can still make complaints about things that annoy you on Flight Rising, but let's try and keep the vitriol at a minimum.

They fought Fire for Christmas dom last year in a full conquest battle

There was so much whining about Fire wanting to contest them offsite. I even remember Clavicado posting to DR about being annoyed about Fire wanting to conquest. The complaint then, aside from having any sort of competition whatsoever, was that Fire informed them last minute.

It really feels like they wanted an easy dom for Icemas. Light showed up hot to battle, Ice said lol no thanks, and bailed (unless changing from conquest to event doesn't imply bailing but I really think it does). The thing that confuses me here is they SAID they'd be CONQUESTING, so presumably, yknow, fighting for first? They were listed before Light was, so it really sounds like (to me) they were totally willing to conquest so close to their holiday if they thought they could do it without a fuss or fight, but then Light joins the picture and they went "yeah no thanks I don't feel like going broke, that's too much work." I wonder if they would've changed to just an event if it were any other Flight who wanted to battle?

This is exactly what I think happened. Hence why I said "all out conquest" in my comment. I think they were willing to do a minor conquest with a theme and raffle and things like that. But then when Light announced they would go for conquest too, that amped it up, and they decided they wouldn't want a LvP style conquest a month before their holiday. And again, having been through LvP, I don't blame them.

according to the dom thread, ice dom got into contact w/light dom to set up rules or whatever (presumably re: oof raffles so that we didn't have to bankrupt ourselves right before our festival) but light didn't want to go that route. which is totally fine, to each their own, etc

i'd rather have an all-out fight against light bc we're guaranteed our festival week anyways, but then again i've never understood the point of having raffles for festival weeks to begin with so. there u go, i guess

imo y'all are making a mountain out of a molehill here.
Another ice non' here, and most of the sentiment on the voting thread was "we'd rather have a fun week aiming for second, then have a stressful week aiming for first"
I'm personally disappointed myself that we're not battling, I was really looking forward to it. But not everyone sees battles as fun, so I can understand why a lot of people voted to make it an event push. (we're really not as dom oriented as a flight as we used to be)

It's probably worth pointing out that this will also be a month and a half before light's annual valight's push- so light has a lot more to lose by conquesting than ice.

This was brought up in the poll thread in Light but ppl were still raring to go for Christmas Dom. I think we're just chomping at the bit for any sort of contested conquest right now; it's been so long since LvP. We've paid off our debt months ago, the bank is in great shape, what's the point of having a Dom bank if we're not spending it anyways?

light non here, can confirm what others have said: ice bailed on conquest because light doesn't want restrictive rules like "no oof raffle," we just want to go all out and have a really good competition.

it's the week before christmas, it wouldn't feel right if we didn't have a raffle.

I'm in Light and tbh I expected Ice to whine a bit about being challenged during their "traditional" fun push week. I expected Ice to want terms set.

I'm pretty damn shocked that they would completely back down though.

I don't get why Ice is getting shit for this tbh. They realized that Light wanted to go a lot harder than they did, so they bowed out before the flight got wrapped up in a conquest battle that probably would've sucked for them. I really don't see what's so wrong with that.
